On the morning of May 12, the "Greater Bay Area Biomedical Future Industry Innovation Forum & Inauguration Ceremony of the Greater Bay Area Biomedical Future Industry Innovation Center" was successfully held at the Conference Center of Lingnan Hospital, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.
Attendees included: Gu Xiaosong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Nantong University; Jiang Baoguo, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Shenzhen University; Liu Liang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine; Lai Zhihong, Deputy Mayor of Guangzhou; Zhang Qi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Sun Yat-sen University; Chen Bin, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Commission; He Yuhong, Deputy District Mayor of Huangpu District, Guangzhou; Rong Limin, President of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University; Wu Jinghong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the hospital; and others. More than 500 people attended the conference, including experts, scholars, and representatives from universities, research institutions, medical units, and industry enterprises across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, as well as faculty and student representatives from the Third Affiliated Hospital. The conference was chaired by Wu Jinghong.
During the ceremony, the Huangpu District People's Government of Guangzhou signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. According to the agreement, Huangpu District will support the renovation project of the Lingnan Hospital research building and provide comprehensive policy support in areas such as industry and talent. In turn, the Third Affiliated Hospital, leveraging the Innovation Center, will open up services to local enterprises including clinical research, medical device trials, and access to innovative drugs and devices. Additionally, both parties will jointly initiate the establishment of the "Huangpu Cell and Gene Industry Innovation Consortium," bringing together medical institutions, R&D enterprises, and industry chain上下游 (upstream and downstream) in the Greater Bay Area to build an industrial ecosystem characterized by "standards leadership, clinical drive, and industrial collaboration."
Witnessed by the attending leaders and guests, the "Greater Bay Area Biomedical Future Industry Innovation Center" was officially inaugurated. Leveraging the innovation strengths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Center focuses on key areas including stem cells and cell therapy, artificial intelligence and intelligent medical manufacturing, modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, innovative drug development, advanced biomaterials, and technology transfer. It aims to establish a high-level collaborative innovation platform integrating "government, industry, academia, research, medicine, and application," accelerating the translation of scientific achievements into clinical applications and industrial development.
